8:45 am: I wake up and immediately check my phone notifications…not the best thing in the world to wake up with but I have a couch delivering today. I check my email to look at the tracking information.
9:01 am: I scroll through Reddit a little. I follow a local subreddit that gives me some local news and local suggestions. It’s not necessarily the best form of news but it’s also tailored to the area around me.
9:39 am: Time for school work! This session I’m taking BIO 100 and MCO 425. I like to have a head start with my school work, so I get started bright and early while I wait for my couch. I listen to a Nintendo music ambience soundtrack on YouTube.
10:28 am: I take a break from school work to start on breakfast. As I have my breakfast, I catch myself scrolling on Reddit and Instagram.
10:57 am: I make an Instagram post featuring the book I’m currently reading, Red Rising. It’s a sci-fi dystopian book about a boy named Darrow, who lives in a color-coded society. He’s a Red that lives beneath the surface of Mars, believing that he is helping to terraform the world. He soon discovers this isn’t the case and that Mars has been terraformed by the Golds for hundreds of years.

11:04 am: Back to school work! I work on some of my biology work. I have nothing due until Sunday, but I want to get a head start on everything and get into good habits.
12:30 pm: Couch is here, so taking a break from school work to reorganize the living room. While working on that, I put on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares on Hulu for some background noise.
1:36 pm: Everything is set up, it’s time to enjoy the new couch! I grab my Kindle to read more of my book.
4:03 pm: My boyfriend and I start on making dinner, tonight we’re having Seattle style hot dogs. I scroll Instagram, Facebook, and Reddit in between helping with prep. Not the best habit, but I like catching up with what everyone is up to.
4:30 pm: Dinner time! While we eat, we put on the show that we’re watching. It’s a Korean cooking show called Culinary Class Wars on Netflix.
5 pm – 8 pm: We get a few episodes in of Culinary Class Wars before I start to wind down for bed. I work early the next day.
8 pm – 9 pm: Bed time! I like to read before bed, it helps me shut off my brain a little. I read Red Rising for about an hour, allowing myself to drift off to sleep.
News Sources and How I Find Them Credible:
For me, I don’t actively read the news, but if I want to get information on an event that is happening in the world, like the LA fires, I’ll look at local news sources like the Los Angeles Times. Bigger news outlets like the Washington Post, the New York Times, and NPR would be where I would go to next. Bias is seen often within bigger news outlets but I find that they do include sources and fact check. If they make a mistake, they are quick to fix it. One downside to bigger news outlets is that it’s becoming more common to find articles hidden behind paywalls, making the news less accessible for the general public. It’s important to not read from just one news source and to get other perspectives on what’s happening.
